SS20

20 mm Opposed Gang Tool CNC Lathe

Tsugami SS20 20mm Swiss Type CNC Lathe

Strength, Flexibility, Modularity for Small Parts

The Tsugami SS20 Opposed Gang Tool CNC Lathe is a rugged performer capable of performing deep cuts while maintaining simultaneous machining on the main and sub spindle. Tsugami’s unique Modular Tool Zone is a key component of the SS Series of Swiss Type Lathes and allows easy replacement of rotary tools, indexed tool holders, and turning tool holders. The result?  Faster set-up and changeover times, and greater flexibility in scheduling long and short part runs.

The SS20’s ability to use the main and sub spindle independently and simultaneously dramatically cuts cycle time as well.  Overall, tool modularity, rugged construction, and simultaneous machining capability transform this exceptional Swiss turn into a multi-faceted machine tool for long and short run small parts.

Key Advantages include:

  • Unique Tsugami Modular Tool Zone: change part runs quickly, handle long and short run jobs easily.  Live tools moved at will!

  • Live Face / Cross Tools, Main and Sub Spindle enable simultaneous machining on both spindles

  • 220 mm Stroke easilyhandles long pieces

  • Handles Complex Parts– in traditional Swiss or “chucker” mode

  • Large Tool Zone facilitates easy access to work area to change tooling

  • Fanuc 32i-B CNC

The Tsugami SS20 CNC Lathe is CONVERTIBLE and may be run as a traditional sliding headstock Swiss Turn using the guide bushing or run without the guide bushing with the addition of an optional chucker kit. When run as a “chucker” the CNC Lathe can use drawn bar stock instead of centerless ground stock, dramatically reducing remnant size and increasing shop flexibility.

At A Glance

Tsugami SS20 CNC Lathe at a Glance

Because of the unique Tsugami Modular Tool Zone, the SS20 Swiss Type Lathe features unmatched flexibility to make complex small parts. Individual live and static tools may be swapped out easily, and/or entire set-ups and changeovers completed rapidly. With added chucker convertibility, this is the machine for today’s demanding long run/ short run shop environment.

Convertible

SS20 - Convertible

The SS20 may be run as a traditional Swiss style lathe using the guide bushing. A quick, easy-to-change (10 minutes) optional “chucker” kit allows you to run the machine without a guide bushing. This is typically used for parts with a length-to-diameter ratio less than 3:1, a significant percentage of small parts.

By being “convertible”, the machine increases the shop’s flexibility to manufacture all types of small parts with speed, accuracy, and precision. Additional benefits to running without a guide bushing: much smaller remnants, ability to use ground bar stock, and faster speeds and surface finishes.
